Weight Loss
WARNING: Please don't waste your time reading any further if you are not truly committed to
losing your excess weight and revitalizing your life.
There seem to be many "authorities" out there who have the answer - buy their book, buy their product, come to their program, and you will lose weight. A search of Amazon.com using the words "weight loss" revealed more than 1,200 matches since 1997. So people do buy their books and products and attend their programs and do lose weight. But although there appear to be easy solutions to the weight loss problem, these solutions tend to be, at best, temporary.
More than 54 million Americans are currently on a diet, yet the prevalence of overweight and obesity continues to increase. If dieting worked, obesity should be decreasing or at least not increasing. It is true that many dieters succeed in taking weight off, but very few manage to keep the weight off over the long term.
Statistics suggest that about half of the adult population in the United States is overweight (body mass index [BMI = weight/height], and 16% are obese. It is not surprising that so many consumers are searching for the "magic pill" that will allow them to lose weight quickly and effortlessly.
Although the number of people dieting continues to increase, the rate of obesity also continues to increase. The latest solution is the high-protein (or, more accurately, high-fat), low-carbohydrate diet. People lose weight while following this diet, but there is no evidence that the weight lost is maintained over the long term. In addition, the diet eliminates whole categories of foods known to have health benefitsfruits, whole-grains, vegetables, and milk. Carbohydrates that are not burnt for energy by the body are taken up by the fat cells and stored as FAT.
Risks of Being Overweight
No more "bouncing" with fad diets. I will
confidentially monitor and analyze your current lifestyle and eating habits and then begin
coaching you personally in all aspects of correct food choices and the benefits of
exercise. Perhaps one of the most helpful things I can do is to help
individuals who struggle with their weight to "like
themselves." I can help them make changes for a healthier lifestyle. By
supporting and motivating my clients throughout their program clients are, for the first
time in their lives, able to achieve permanent weight-loss. As a team the Client and I can achieve these goals by using Multiphasic
Motivational Programming (MMP). Multiphasic Motivational Programming may be defined
as the inter-phasing, or combining, of various therapeutic modalities and personality
inventory systems employed in a state of hypnosis to influence and enhance pertinent
motivational factors and thus program a desired psychological and/or physiological
response into an individual and, by implication, thus deprogram that individual of
undesirable psychological and/or physiological patterns. MMP is essentially a behavior modification technique and does not
consider past causative factors in a psycho-analytical sense. It deals almost exclusively
with the present and the future.
Weight loss clients are seen weekly in a program consisting of a pre-determined length. The number of sessions are contingent upon the amount of weight the client needs or wishes to lose. This can vary from a five to a twelve session program. I base the number of sessions for my weight loss program on the amount of weight the client wishes to lose. Here's my breakdown:
Up to 30 lbs. - five sessions
More than 30 but less than 50 - six sessions
More than 50 but less than 75 - eight sessions
More than 75 but less than 100 - ten sessions
More than 100 - twelve sessions
No two people are exactly alike. While the goals of therapy may remain the same, the approach must be individualized. Accordingly, after an initial Clinical Interview and consultation where the problem area is isolated the weight loss client is thoroughly tested for such factors as stress levels, relaxation profiles, neuro-linguistic learning channels, hemispheric brain dominance, hypnotic susceptibility as related to personality, appropriate overeating trigger cues, and carbohydrate sensitivity. This comprises the first session.
The results are analyzed and evaluated and then the suggestive therapy portion of the program is designed specifically for the individual client.
Supervision is the key element to maintaining long term weight loss. The five to twelve week session period, not only helps the client to develop good habits with their eating, but it helps their metabolism to reconfigure and wean themselves off excessive amounts of sugar and reduce their portion sizes without feeling hungry. In addition to this, the one on one weekly consultation has proven to be essential to a successful outcome.
